Uruguay wants to continue as the main port of exit for Paraguayan production

Uruguay hopes that the port of Montevideo will continue to be the main maritime outlet for Paraguayan production, despite the delays in the clearance of merchandise suffered by some Paraguayan vessels in the Uruguayan capital.

Montevideo, 21 Nov (EFE) .- Uruguay hopes that the port of Montevideo will continue to be the main maritime outlet for Paraguayan production, despite the delays in the clearance of goods that some Paraguayan vessels suffer in the Uruguayan capital.

This was announced today to the press by the Minister of Transport and Public Works of Uruguay, Victor Rossi, who assured that from their portfolio they are trying to solve the issue so that "business serves for all" and that there is no interference between the different actors.

"What we need is to try to Doing things well every one of us, everything that has to do with the National Ports Administration (ANP) and with the local operators and what has to do with the companies of our brother country we want to serve and we want you to feel the Port of Montevideo like them to go out to the ocean, "Rossi said.

Also, the minister explained that there was a series of situations that affected the Paraguayan merchandise that they expect to correct so that the operation is beneficial for all those involved.

The problem arises because before the waiting line to be taken care of the operators are giving priority to download and load the oceanic ships in front of the Paraguayans and at least about 14 vessels of this country are unemployed for about two weeks in the port of Montevideo.

Last Monday, representatives of the Ministry and the ANP met with authorities of the Paraguayan Government and a delegation of entrepreneurs affected by the delay in the operation of the vessels.

After this instance, the Uruguayan Government said that short and long term solutions were proposed to solve the matter.

In this sense, the Uruguayan minister said that these are problems "between private actors" in which in many occasions "the best price is sought" and some of them are left aside. qualifications or services.

In addition, operators "compete with each other" and that in general does not cause consequences, although this time "not having ordered that competition" brought some prejudice and certain "slowing down of services".

"That is what we can not accept and that is why the National Ports Administration intervened," Rossi stressed, adding that his Ministry feels responsible for the operation of the Port of Montevideo because they are aware of the importance it has for Uruguay and for the region.

"We want it to remain the main port output of Paraguayan production, "he concluded.
