Trade, construction and logistics, sectors with the greatest weight in Panama's GDP

Trade, construction and logistical aspects such as transport, storage and communications are the sectors with the greatest weight in Panama's gross domestic product (GDP), indicated a study of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) published today.

Panama, Nov 10 (EFE) .- Trade, construction and logistic aspects such as transportation, storage and communications are the sectors with the greatest weight in the gross domestic product (GDP) of Panama, indicated a study of the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) published today.

Estimated figures for 2016 indicate that wholesale and retail trade; the repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, personal effects and household goods accounted for 18.2% of Panamanian GDP.

For the years 2013, 2014 and 2015, the weight in GDP of this sector stood at 19.7%, 18.9% and 18.5%, said INEC, a body of the Comptroller General of Panama.

For 2016, the construction sector national, showing an upward trend against 14.4% in 2015, 13.5% (2014) and 12.5% �??�??(2013).

Transportation, storage and communications represented in 2016 the below 13.1% in 2015, 13.4% in 2014 and 13.8% in 2013.

Real estate, business and rental activities constituted 7.8% in 2016 being constant since 2013, while financial intermediation represented 7.3%, with a slight variation with respect to 2015 (7.2%) and 2014 (7.1%) and 2013 (7.2%).

Mining operations monopolized in 2016 1.7%, the same as in 2015, and slightly less than 1.6% in 2014 and 2013.

The weight in the GDP of agriculture, livestock, hunting and in 2016, below 2.1%, 2.2% and 2.3% of the years 2015, 2014 and 2013, respectively.

And fishing represented only 0.4% of GDP between 2013 and 2015, according to INEC figures.

Although it has shown a slowdown in the last five years, Panama's economy continues to be one of the most dynamic in the world. the region, and the Government estimates that this year it will expand 5.5% of GDP, up from 4.9% in 2016.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) has indicated that the International (IMF) forecasts that Panama's economy will grow 5.3% of GDP this year, the World Bank 5.4% and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) 5.5%.
