Barranquilla (Colombia), Nov 22 (EFE) .- The Minister of Public Works of Spain, ÃÃ±igo de la Serna, said today in Barranquilla that Colombia is a priority partner for his country in various areas, especially in trade and infrastructure.
"For us, Colombia is a priority objective from the point of view of commercial relations, especially in the field of infrastructures and transport, "the minister said when he started an official visit to Barranquilla, which also includes activities in neighboring Cartagena.
Serna signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the transport minister of Colombia, GermÃ¡n Cardona, in the field of transport infrastructures and services, after which he told Efe that "the investment capacity of Spanish companies in Colombia is amply demonstrated".
"We continue to be in a good position regarding investment in this country and from then with all the willingness to continue increasing our activity in the future, "he added.
The purpose is to build" a platform for our business sector, for the execution of numerous works and actions that are already contemplated in the strategic projects that Colombia has, "he said.
The Ministry of Development will also visit the works of the new bridge on the Magdalena River that is being executed by the Spanish firm Sacyr at the entrance of Barranquilla, a construction that will replace the current one, known as Puente Pumarejo.
"We have very emblematic as the one we are going to visit, such as the Pumarejo bridge, the great viaduct with more than 2,500 meters long, which is a milestone in engineering in this country and with that we try to demonstrate that our companies are at the very first level, with a vast experience, with a proven ability, "he said before moving to the construction site.
The bridge It is located near the mouth of the Magdalena River, the main Colombian fluvial artery, and the construction, with a cost of 615,000 million pesos (about 206 million dollars), he is in charge of the SES Puente Magdalena consortium, integrated by the Colombian company Esgamo IngenierÃa Constructores and the Spanish company Sacyr.
Currently, Spain has investments in Colombia 7,000 million euros (about 8,240 million dollars) in different activities of the economy, according to data released by the minister.

From Barranquilla, the owner of Fomento will move to Cartagena where he will hold meetings with the mayor of BogotÃ¡, Enrique PeÃ±alosa, and with the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, MarÃa Lorena GutiÃ©rrez.
