Asunción, Nov. 22 (EFE) .- The Paraguayan Senate today approved an increase of 4% for public teaching that will be added to the 12% established by the Executive for the next four years. that meets in part the demands of the sector, which was manifested in front of the Congress during the study of the General National Budget (PGN).
The teachers thus achieved the minimum of its claims, an increase of 12% in January as stipulated by the Government and as approved by the Chamber of Deputies at the beginning of the month, and that now, after the treatment of the PGN in the Senate, it incorporates 4% more in July to reach 16%.
Although teachers of Paraguayan public education asked for an annual increase of 20%, they had previously valued positive way this average term.
The increase was approved during the particular study of each government portfolio during the session in the Senate to analyze the PNG of 2018, which was approved with general modifications and will have to go through the legislative process by the Chamber of Deputies in the coming days for a final decision.
Last 8 of November teachers of Paraguayan public education were in vigil for two days in the square in front of the Congress, from where they saw the rejection of the Chamber of Deputies to their request salary increase, giving half sanction to a lower project and defended by the Executive.
Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes said on September 1 that the Government will allocate more than 100 million dollars per year to improve the salary of teachers in the public sector for the next four years after weeks of negotiation with the unions.
The measure of Government contemplated the investment of that figure every year during the next four years, to ensure a staggered increase of 2 (354 dollars) to 3 million guaranies (531 dollars) per month to all teachers.
