Retail trade rose 0.7% in the eurozone and 0.3% in the EU in September

The volume of retail sales rose by 0.7% in the euro area in September and by 0.3% in the European Union (EU) compared to the previous month, the office reported today. Statistics, Eurostat.

Brussels, Nov 7 (EFE) .- The volume of sales of retail trade rose by 0.7% in the euro area in September and 0.3% in the European Union (EU) compared to the month reported today the European statistics office, Eurostat.

In August, retail trade fell by 0.1% in the eurozone, while it had progressed by 0.5% in the EU. year-on-year terms, the retail sales index increased by 3.7% in the euro area and by 3.5% in the Twenty-eight.

The increase in September compared to August in the euro zone corresponds to the increase of 1.3% in the food, beverages and tobacco sector and 0.5% in the non-food sector.

Fuel sales, however, fell by 0.4%.

retail sales advanced by 0.4% on a monthly basis and by 2.5% between September 2016 and September 2017.

In the EU as a whole, retail sales increased in September 0.9% in food, beverages and tobacco, while they decreased 0.5% in the commercialization of fuels and 0.1% in the non-food sector.

Among the States over which available data, the largest monthly falls were registered in the United Kingdom (2.2%), Croatia (1.9%) and Lithuania (1.0%), while the highest increases took place in Ireland (1.4%) Denmark and Luxembourg (1.3% in both) and in France (1.2%).

In the year-on-year calculation, the 3.7% increase in the euro area is explained by an increase in the food and 2.3% in food, beverages and tobacco, while sales in fuel decreased by 0.6%.

In the European Union as a whole, the advance of 3.5%. responds to the increase of 5.4% in the non-food sector and 1.9% for food, beverages and tobacco, while sales of fuels fell by 0.1%.

Further progress was registered in Romania (14.0%), Malta (9.8%) and Ireland (8.2%) and the most pronounced fall in Luxembourg (25.3%).
