Peru launches international sanitary alert against Chinese preserves with parasites

The National Fisheries Health Agency (Sanipes) detailed that the alert was sent through Peruvian Chancellery confirmed that a conserve of mackerel in tomato sauce that had a sanitary certificate issued by the Chinese authority had parasitic worms (anisakid nematodes).

The official note stated that this product was manufactured by the Chinese company Tropical Food Manufacturing (Ningbo) Co. Ltd. and that "the sanitary alert to China issued because that contaminated product puts the health of consumers at risk ".

Sanipes added that it has banned the importation of all products of the aforementioned company until the Chinese health authority "demonstrates that it can guarantee the safety of these products" to the Peruvian market.

Sanipes also said that it has notified the companies Peruvians who imported these preserves to "proceed, under responsibility, to the immediate withdrawal of the Peruvian market of all products" and asked the public not to consume.

He also called on distributors, marketers, supermarkets, markets and grocery stores that have these preserves "that do not continue with the offer and sale" and communicate with the health authorities to "coordinate the corresponding measures of withdrawal or sanitary immobilization."
