Mexico accumulates 16,000 million dollars in foreign currency for tourism in 2017

Mexico, Nov 15 (EFE) .- Mexico captured 16,000 million dollars in tourist currencies and received 28.6 million foreign visitors during the first nine months of 2017, reported today the secretary of Tourism, Enrique de la Madrid Cordero.

The Mexican minister stressed that in the first nine months of the year the arrival of foreign tourists grew by 12.3% compared to same period of 2016, and that during September was 15% higher compared to the same month of the previous year.

Hurricanes and recent earthquakes had no effect on the tourist activity of the country, highlighted De la Madrid, based on the statistics of the issuer Banco de México for this sector of the economy.

Between January and September 2017, Mexico achieved a 16,000 million dollar foreign exchange attraction for tourism, 9.6% more than those received during the same period of 2016, he said.

He highlighted that tourism registered in the border of Mexico with States last September had a growth of 23% in comparison with the visitors received the same month of the year 2016.

The number of US tourists arriving in Mexico in the first nine months of the year have been eight million, a year-on-year increase of 11.1%, he explained.

In that same period they arrived from Argentina by air 355,000 visitors, and 250,000 from Brazil, which represents increases of 24.5% and 23.8%, respectively, compared to the similar period of the previous year.

El Mexican minister pointed out that tourism from Peru registered growth of 18.6%, that of Colombia, 13.9%, and that of France, 12.9%, according to data from the Bank of Mexico.
